There are no immediate plans to replace two ministers, Sidik Mia and Lingson Belekanyama who succumbed to COVID-19 pandemic in January this year.
Both Presidential spokesperson, Brian Banda and Malawi Congress Party Publicist, Maurice Munthali have confirmed the development.
“We are still mourning our departed beloved members and have not thought yet when we intend to replace them,” said Munthali in a short response.
Banda said the power to replace the ministers rests with President Lazarus Chakwera and will do so at an appropriate time.
“The President knows that and will make a decision on replacing the two ministers when he deems it fit,” Banda told Rainbow.
But Chancellor College political analyst, Ernest Thindwa questions Chakwera’s lack of urgency in replacing the ministers; arguing the ministries demand a political leader to push policies.
“I expected him to treat the matter with urgency,” said Thindwa.
Mia and Belekanya died while serving as Transport and Local Government Ministers respectively.
